Volkswagen fans converge on the Mississippi Gulf Coast to benefit local charities
The Mississippi Gulf Coast Volkswagen Club’s 26th Annual car show took off without a hitch on Saturday, March 20, on the grounds of Beauvoir, the Jefferson Davis Home & Presidential Library, in Biloxi.
Nearly 100 cars, VDubs of all shapes and sizes, from the original classics to customized and late models, were pre-registered for the event that benefits local charities. They were on display for all to see.
According to event organizers, this year’s show may have very well been the Club’s biggest yet.
The event featured a festive atmosphere as activities coincided with the Beauvoir’s Easter egg “Scavenger Hunt” for kids; a welcoming sight for many as springtime temperatures emerge throughout the region.
The show also included hourly drawings, a live auction, local food vendors, and an awards presentation for the Top 10 vehicles. Trophies were also awarded to “Best of Show” and “Best Engine.”
Headline sponsors for the event are Volkswagen of South Mississippi and M&D Foreign Car Parts. In 2020, the event raised $5,700 for local charities including Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Scholarship Fund, Cruisin for a Cure, Hancock Food Pantry, The Lord Is My Help, Back Bay Mission, George County Sheriff’s Department’s Christmas for Kids, St. Vincent De Paul, and Beauvoir.
Members of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Volkswagen Club meet on the second Saturday monthly at 6 p.m. at the Beauvoir, 2244 Beach Blvd., Biloxi. David Brann currently serves as the Club’s president.
